Autumn Social, Wednesday 18th October 2023

Our Autumn Meeting this year will be at Llanishen Village Hall on Wednesday 18th October. Doors open at 6.30pm for a 7.00pm start. Please book a place using the form below.

Jacinth and Jemima with Stephanie & Alan Poulter (Jon Dunkelman)

The topic of the evening will be Conservation Grazing with Ponies, and in particular Exmoor Ponies.

Exmoors are an ancient ‘breed’, or possibly even an aboriginal type of British wild pony that has remained largely unchanged since prehistoric times. Many MMG members have had the pleasure of our two, Jacinth and Jemima, grazing their meadows over the years.

The Exmoor Pony Society have produced a short film about the breed and their value for conservation, which we will show at the meeting with an introduction from Stephanie Poulter, a long-standing committee member of the Society with special responsibility for conservation grazing. Stephanie, also on the MMG committee, and her husband Alan looked after Jacinth and Jemima since they were acquired by us as yearlings in 2006 until they were handed over to Gwent Wildlife Trust earlier this year.

The film will be followed by a buffet supper, at around 8pm, and plenty of time to chat, meet old friends and make new ones. Bookings are required for the supper (below) and there is a payment of £18 for members, £21 for non-members, including two glasses of wine (with soft drinks available of course).

There is no charge to members for coming to just the talk and film (£3 for non-members).

Finding Llanishen Village Hall

Church Rd, Llanishen, Chepstow NP16 6QE

Llanishen is on the B4293, about half way between Monmouth and Chepstow (8 miles from each).

Coming from Monmouth, through Trellech, go past the garage and Llanishen village stores (on the left) and the Carpeneter’s Arms (on the right). The turning into Church Road is the next right, just before a bus shelter (a tight, sharp turn of almost 180 degrees).

From Chepstow, through Devauden and into Llanishen, the turning into Church Road is on the left, just past a bus shelter with the sign ‘At the Hall’ on it.

Follow Church Road round to the left and the car park for the hall is on the left, next to the children’s playground.
