Grassland Fungi Walk: Sunday 23 October

THIS EVENT IS NOW FULLY BOOKED

UPDATE: Please note parking will now be at the village hall (the Babington Centre), NOT the surgery. Directions and details will be sent on receipt of your booking.

Join us for a walk through Trellech Wet Meadow and New Grove Meadows spotting and identifying colourful grassland fungi, with Elsa Wood and Jon Dunkelman, authors of the book Grassland Fungi: A Field Guide

The walk starts at 1.30pm at the Roman Way entrance to Wet Meadow (directions below). Expect to finish around 4pm. Parking is in the village hall car park (at The Babington Centre). Anyone less mobile can join us mid-afternoon for a shorter walk through New Grove Meadows, parking near the entrance to the reserve.

Autumn is the time the colourful Waxcaps, Corals, Spindles and many other grassland fungi make their appearance. A field rich in Waxcaps is a sign of an undisturbed, species-rich meadow. Like grassland flowers, these fungi are becoming rare as their habitat has been lost. Wales, and the lower Wye Valley in particular, is home to some of the best Waxcap grasslands in the UK, among which are the reserves in Trellech.

Trellech Wet Meadow is jointly managed by Monmouthshire Meadows Group and Gwent Wildlife Trust; New Grove Meadows is a Gwent Wildlife Trust Reserve.

There is no charge for the walk, but please book in advance using the form below.
