A working party is needed at Ty Mawr convent on Sunday 9 September. MMG have agreed to cut and rake the wet meadow in exchange for the seed that Gwent Wildlife Trust is collecting for us. Members who came to the Bioblitz day at Ty Mawr in June will know that this is an interesting site and well worth proper management to keep and improve the range of wetland species we found there. These included Hemp Agrimony, Marsh Bedstraw, Marsh Pennywort, Ragged Robin, Bog Stitchwort, Water Forget-me-not as well as several species of fern and many grasses.
We plan to cut the meadow with the Tracmaster, which we obtained three years ago with a grant from the Countryside Council for Wales. Volunteers are needed to help rake off the cuttings. We’ll be there from 10.00 until 16.00 or whenever finished. If you cannot come along for the day but can help for an hour or two that would be great. We’ll have a lunch break so bring along a picnic and drinks.
Either park at the Convent and walk down to the wet pasture or park at the Pecket Stone or on the road verge close to the pasture (SO507076).
