Thank you to everyone who came along to our Autumn meeting. It was a fascinating and lively discussion looking at the role of different habitats in creating sustainability, with the emphasis on carbon storage and sequestration, although all agreed that sustainability meant much more than this. Jenny Knight of Stump up for Trees explained the role of trees in sequestration, while Caroline O’Rourke of the Floodplain Meadows Partnership demonstrated the importance of meadows in carbon storage, and how this has been under-estimated. It’s clear that a holistic, whole environment approach is required, and Joe Hasely from the Duchy of Cornwall explained how these sustainability principles were being applied on the Duchy estate lands.
