Our Books and Leaflets
Grassland Fungi: A Field Guide, Third Edition by Elsa Wood and Jon Dunkelman, published March 2025
Additional photographs of Grassland Fungi can be found in our online collection here
MMG has received funding from The Pollinator Fund to purchase new display material, including a revised version of our leaflet Management of Grasslands for Wildlife.
The leaflet, written by Steph Tyler and designed by Clare Adamson of MMG, includes essential information on managing species-rich grasslands. It includes all the important points about caring for your hay meadow or pasture, and answers the questions that are asked most often about encouraging wildflowers and the wildlife they support onto your land.
Copies can be seen on our stall at various events, and you can download a pdf version here:
Management of Grasslands for Wildlife
The Pollinator Fund was set up by Monmouthshire County Council’s Operations Department to help deliver environmental improvements as part of a larger local authority revenue grant from the Welsh Governments Environment and Sustainable Development Directorate. The Council’s Operations Department set aside funding specifically for the benefit of pollinators. Many of Monmouthshire’s community groups have received funds for projects that actively help reverse the decline in pollinators.
The original leaflet was published in 2013, funded by Gwent Wildlife Trust with a grant from Monmouthshire Natural Assets Project.

Kingcoed Meadows leaflet (pdf) published July 2016
To celebrate our tenth anniversary in 2013 we published 'Wildflower Meadows in Monmouthshire: Ten years of conserving and restoring flower-rich grasslands’. It includes stories from MMG members about their experiences with their own meadows, from large expanses of pasture to small patches in the garden, and plenty of information from lessons learnt along the way.
The book is A4 format with 48 pages and over 70 photographs all taken by our members and supporters from partner organisations. It makes a great, inexpensive present for anyone you are trying to encourage to the cause.
Members are entitled to a copy free of charge. We ask for a donation of £5 from non-members, plus £2 for postage if we send it to you. Copies are available from committee members and at our events.
Contact the committee to find out how to get hold of your copy, or see us at events throughout the summer: Events Diary
This project has been supported by the Sustainable Development Fund, a Natural Resources Wales initiative in the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB)
In 2011 a grant from Environment Wales enabled Monmouthshire Meadows Group volunteers to visit more sites than would otherwise have been possible, and to resurvey many sites previously visited between 2003 and 2006 in order to assess the effectiveness of management measures. The report of these visits has been completed and is available here to download.
We are very grateful to Environment Wales for their support.
