UPDATE: Places are now fully booked for our Open Day on 13th June. We are operating a waiting list so please complete the form below to be added to this. We are sorry we can’t fit more people in!
There will be two Meadows Open Days in 2021: Sunday 13th June in the Llanishen/Trellech area; and Sunday 27th June at Llanllowell House near Usk. Information on 27th June will be published shortly. Bookings are now open for 13th June – numbers are limited so booking is essential.
On Sunday 13th June our hosts will be:
- David Hathaway at Trewen, Llanishen, NP16 6QG
- Martin & Patricia Milling at Blue Door, Far Hill, Llanishen NP16 6QZ
- Justine & David Scouller at Elm Farm, Far Hill, Llanishen, NP16 6QZ
At Elm Farm, Justine runs her business Far Hill Flowers, supplying organically grown flowers for all occasions and events. Two of their fields are managed as traditional meadows, with a hay crop taken. These two fields have a very diverse flora with over 30 ‘indicator species’ found at a recent survey. (A site considered to be of county importance, and designation as a Local Wildlife Site, should have eight or more.) Just down the lane, Blue Door is a small, beautifully located garden meadow. These will be open together as a single location.
Trewen is a 10-15 minute drive from Far Hill. This Local Wildlife Site is about 10 acres in all, with the pastures managed for wildlife, and around 1.5 acres of woodland.
There is a map of the locations and the route between them below.
There is limited parking space at each location so numbers are limited. We also have to take into account Covid guidance, which could change. We are, therefore, operating a booking system this time.
Visitors will be in groups starting at either 11am or 2pm.
Each group will spend time at one location (either Trewen or Elm Farm/Blue Door), then move on to the second. There will be a guided walk at each location. If you prefer to wander on your own there will be an opportunity to do that, but we still ask you to book for one of these times and keep to your allocated group.
Groups will be allocated on a first come first serve basis, so if your first choice of time fills up you will be offered the alternative until all spaces are filled.
We will let you know where your starting point is when the bookings are complete.
