Herefordshire Meadows Network is a new, informal group of meadow owners managing and conserving grassland. Founded in 2015, the group is visiting meadows in Herefordshire this summer. Here are details of their next events – you must book to go on one of these visits (details below).
7th July 2015 6 – 8.30 pm
New House Farm and Christopher Cadbury reserve, Michaelchurch Escley, HR2 0PT, SO295366 by kind invitation of Sue Quigley and Herefordshire Wildlife Trust – meet at New House Farm
An informal walk around meadows in the Escley valley. A great opportunity to discuss meadow matters, share tips and learn from other owners’ experiences of managing meadows for wildlife and livestock.
16th July 2015 6 – 8.30 pm
Meadow Restoration by Green Hay Strewing
Upper Bryn Farm, Longtown HR2 0NA, SO337293 by kind invitation of Peter Tierney.
Peter has years of experience using the hay strewing technique with tractor mounted and pedestrian equipment. This is an excellent chance for anyone who is trying to enhance meadows using local provenance hay to find out more about the technique, how to avoid the pitfalls and see some of the wonderful results. One of the original sources of seed Peter used was from Dulas churchyard SO373294 and you can stop here on the way to Longtown if you wish to see a good quality donor site.
Places are limited for both events. Booking is essential: firstname.lastname@example.org tel 01981 251016 or 07779 080940 stating your preference for first choice event.
If you would like to join the network please send full contact details to Caroline Hanks.
