Now 2015 has well and truly started, it’s time to blow away the cobwebs and get back to helping nature at Rogiet Countryside Park. Work parties are happening on
- Monday 26th January
- Tuesday 3rd February
- Saturday 14th March
Keep Wales Tidy are organising these work days and are asking for volunteers to help maintain and improve the rich habitat at the park. The plan is to tackle the encroaching buddleia, which steadily tries to take over the valuable varied lower lying flowering plants on the site. Recent work has included treatment of Japanese knotweed over the summer, a late cut of the grassland, and some successful buddleia clearance. You can see pictures of previous work parties on KWTs flickr pages, and some of the wildflowers from last year’s display.
There’ll be a variety of tasks so there will be something suitable for everyone to get involved in ranging from carrying cut material by hand to using loppers, small saws, even a winch to deal with the buddleia stumps. Tools and gloves will be available as will guidance if you haven’ t used those tools before.
10am to 2pm on each day. Meet in the main car park, which is on the right 100yds or so after you cross the railway bridge.
Travelling through Rogiet on the main road take Station Rd which is signed for the railway station. Follow the road over the roundabout and past the school and old ‘Rogiett’ pub. Follow the road straight past the entrance to the railway station and go up over the railway bridge. Then look out for the right turn 100yds on, which hairpins back and down to the car park.
