We couldn’t have asked for a better evening, with golden sunlight washing the wildflower meadows as members and guests gathered at Northridge House, home of Ann and Michael Robinson, to celebrate our birthday and announce the official publication of our book “Wildflower Meadows in Monmouthshire: Ten years of conserving and restoring flower-rich grasslands”. The book is a chronicle of our work since we started in 2003, with stories from many of our members which include hints, tips and lessons on restoring and caring for meadows. The aim of the book is to publicise our work, promote good practice and spread the word to encourage others. We want to show how a community group can make a difference (and it’s also a good read with some lovely photographs!)
It was great to see some of our original members at the party, including Diana Bevan our first chairman, and Trevor Evans MBE our president. Sarah Sawyer of Wye Valley AONB represented the Sustainable Development Fund who provided the grant that allowed us to produce the book. Our most recent committee member, Clare Adamson, co-ordinated the refreshments.
The book is free to members, and available for a suggested donation of £5 to everyone else. So if you need any more good reasons to join MMG, look at how much fun we have…
